The shaping process of ceramic compounds in injection moulding leads, for example, in the conveying or injection zones of the system to high abrasion stresses with commensurate economic consequences.

One possibility to make the operation of such a system efficient is the use of components made of oxide and non-oxide ceramic materials, i.e. doped ZrO2 (Mg-PSZ, Y-TZP) SiC or Si3N4.

Selected technically relevant properties for the application are listed in the following overview.

  • High wear resistance
  • High resilience to torsion
  • High compressive strength
  • Modulus of elasticity: 200 – 400 GPa
  • High edge stability
  • No deformation
  • No contact corrosion
  • Realization of force, form-fit and substance-to-substance ceramic-ceramic and ceramic-metal composite components

On account of these properties, system components made of the above-mentioned materials achieve without exception, in comparison with conventional metallic components, longer service lifetimes. The additional costs on account of the much higher acquisition costs in some cases are generally more than offset owing to the above-mentioned properties of the ceramic materials.
