AdvanCer Training Program Expanded

The Fraunhofer AdvanCer Alliance/DE has organized its own training program for technicians and engineers. The three training blocks held once a year offer an insight into the fields of materials research, ceramic technologies, production engineering, material mechanics, fatigue strength and non-destructive test methods.

Structuring of Ceramic Green Tapes – Challenges for Processing

Ceramic and metallic green tapes as far as compound tapes of both materials, produced by tape casting, will be evaluated regarding structuring processes by Fraunhofer IKTS/DE and KIT/DE within the research project INKA, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (IGF 17839 BG).

Hot Stuff – Ceramics for Industrial Heating Applications

Electrical heating elements are used in innumerable industrial processes. They are used in plastics technology for heating injection nozzles, hot runners and tools, and in chemicals technology for melting and evaporating samples. In automotive engineering they are used, for instance, for the ignition of fuel mixes (hot surface igniters) and for heating sensors (e.g. !-sensor). … Read more

FE-Simulation (FEA) for the Designing of Ceramic/Metal Assemblies – the End of Trial and Error?

With the FEA as a part of the integrative design process it is possible to precisely calculate the stresses, which are induced in ceramic components during the assembly or operation. By using postprocessors short-term and also long-term fracture probabilities can be calculated. The precision of the results depends highly on the used input data and … Read more

Product and System Innovation Based on Integrative Design with Ceramic (IDC): Material Alternatives

In the second chapter of the series on ICD the main advanced ceramic materials such as zirconia, alumina, silicon nitride and silicon carbide are presented. Their properties, in particular mechanical properties strongly depend on manufacturing, but also on size and geometry and raw material quality. Therefore data found in literature as well as in suppliers … Read more
