One Plus One Equals Three? Alumina Plus Zirconia Equals ZTA
Technical high-performance ceramics can be roughly divided into two groups: oxide ceramics and non-oxide ceramics. Non-oxides, for example, include carbides (e.g. silicon carbide SiC) and nitrides (e.g. silicon nitride Si3N4). The best-known representatives of oxide ceramics are alumina (Al2O3) and zirconia (ZrO2).
