General Information on CeramicAPPLICATIONS

CeramicAPPLICATIONS is the platform for advances in the development of ceramic components and systems for sustainable, economic applications in their wide range of industrial sectors. CeramicAPPLICATIONS bridges the knowledge of ceramic technology, technology development, analytics and product design with the needs of its various industrial user segments. CeramicAPPLICATIONS provides two main services. First our offline instruments, respectively our magazine including supplier profiles, technological exchange, and furthermore networking as well as fair participation and our permanent exhibitions. Our common goal is to enhance the visibility of technical ceramic components.

cfi -ceramic forum international/ Ber. DKG

is the technical-scientific journal for the ceramic industry. It provides an international overview of state-of-the- art technology and processes for all market sectors with a focus on tiles, tableware, sanitaryware, refractories as well as heavy clay and advanced ceramics and the sectors of carbon and powder metallurgy. cfi targets professionals and managers from both industry (producers and suppliers) and scientific field. The reports in the international section are published in English and include evaluations of the latest findings and products from the supplier indus try (raw materials, plants). In addition, substantiated market analysis, reports, economic topics, ventures and product developments are also featured.

The Journal of Ceramic Science and Technology

publishes original scientific articles on all topics of ceramic science and technology from all ceramic branches. The focus is on the scientific exploration of the relationships between processing, microstructure and properties of sintered ceramic materials as well as on new processing routes for innovative ceramic materials. The papers may have either theoretical or experimental background. A high quality of publications will be guaranteed by a thorough double-blind peer review process.
The Journal is published by Göller Verlag GmbH on behalf of the Deutsche Keramische Gesellschaft (DKG). Edited by Yu-Ping Zeng, Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China.

There remains a pressing need for concerted publicity work to market ceramic components and systems. Thanks to intensive cooperation and joint activities of the users, producers, suppliers and research institutes, the number of success stories can be quickly increased.

The new brand name CERAMIC APPLICATIONS covers four pillars:

  • Industry-orientated magazine CERAMIC APPLICATIONS
  • National (e.g. ceramitec, HANNOVER MESSE) and international (e.g. Ceramics Expo/US, Ceramics Japan/JP) trade fair activities. The modern trade fair concept is based on individualized modules on a shared stand with comprehensive services for all co-exhibitors
  • Homepage, including knowledge centre and communication platform for placing inquiries to all partner companies
  • Permanent showrooms TREFFPUNKT KERAMIK* (Dresden, Aachen, Höhr-Grenzhausen/under construction)

Partners of CERAMIC APPLICATIONS are either manufacturers of technical ceramics or institutes engaged in applied research in this field. The aim is also to bridge competences of applied science and industry.
CERAMIC APPLICATIONS is an international platform.

History

In the late 1980s TASK (Technologieagentur Strukturkeramik/technology agency structural ceramics) evolved as a project for technology transfer in structural ceramics in the scope of founding activities of the Institute for Ceramic Components in Mechanical Engineering (IKKM) at RWTH University of Aachen. It was registered in 1991 as TASK GmbH by Prof. Maier and has been managed by Dr Zins since 1993. One core activity is the “Treffpunkt Keramik –Meeting Point Ceramics” exhibition, which also gave its name to the publicity work at trade fairs. In connection with his takeover of the management of structural ceramics division at Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems (IKTS) in Dresden, TASK moved to Dresden. There TASK was run by the Zins family and the relocated exhibition now formed a permanent fixture in all visitor tours at IKTS. The Aachen exhibition was still supported by the IKKM, which has now been renamed the Institute for Materials Applications in Mechanical Engineering (IWM).

The consultation service was used especially by small companies, which opt for a free first consultation at TREFFPUNKT KERAMIK, to get an independent analysis of their problem. The TASK homepage was visited around 100 times a day. With the performance show of the solutions available on the market, TASK gave new users the opportunity to learn about existing solutions, make contact with the manufacturers and realize feasibility studies. The goal was and remains to enable new applications.
Institutes in the project planning phase also used this TASK service. In the scope of brief consultations, project approaches are discussed in which the application of ceramic components is planned. The arranging of direct contacts to manufacturers was a key aspect.
As a result of the cooperation in the market launch of the journal CERAMIC APPLICATIONS and a number of strategic talks, the takeover of these Treffpunkt Keramik (Ceramics Meeting Point) activities by the Göller publishing company, which publishes the journals CERAMIC APPLICATIONS, refractories WORLDFORUM, cfi – ceramic forum international und Journal of Ceramic Science and Technology was seen as the ideal option for the future.
This concept was presented on 08.07.2014 by the Göller publishing company (Ulrich Göller) together with the TASK Team (Christina and Dr Michael Zins) to the TASK members. Legally, TASK has been owned by Göller GmbH since 1 January 2015. It has been renamed CERAMIC APPLICATIONS.

*Treffpunkt Keramik – Meeting Point Ceramics

TREFFPUNKT KERAMIK in Dresden forms the basis for the transfer work. The collection currently comprises around 1 000 exhibits. In past years the permanent exhibition has been visited by around 1 500 interested visitors each year. This number includes students from Dresden University of Technology, associates of the various Fraunhofer Institutes and similar research institutes as well as around 35 % industry partners.
This concept has been widened now by Göller Verlag GmbH to IAPK in Aachen and FGK in Höhr-Grenzhausen.
Due to the close cooperation with the learning centres, not only new applications are launched, but also young people can be attracted into the industry.
