Customized Solutions for Demanding Applications

The Bosch Advanced Ceramics Technical Center/DE offers ceramic 3D printed parts from different technologies from various manufacturers to find the ideal solution for every geometry and application. The ceramic materials used also influence the properties of the component. Bosch Advanced Ceramics uses, among others, aluminum oxide, the most widely used oxide ceramic material. Due to its excellent mechanical properties, this high-performance ceramic is suitable for use in many industries, for example in mechanical engineering, plant engineering, medical technology and electrical engineering. Zirconia has high fracture toughness and abrasion resistance, which makes it ideal for protecting durable sensors. In the case of mixed oxide ceramics made of alumina and zirconia (ZTA), the dominance of one or the other material within the compound determines the final characteristics. A wide variety of application-specific requirements can be met. They are primarily used in chemical and process engineering as well as in specialty machinery.

From prototyping to series production

The advantages of Additive Manufacturing are a high degree of design freedom, great flexibility in production, and rapid sampling. These diverse possibilities of 3D printing are already being used for series production at Bosch Advanced Ceramics.

Functional prototypes made of ceramics can already be produced in small batches in an economically viable manner, since investment costs in a tool are not necessary. However, flexibility in the manufacturing process is maintained; thus, a wide variety of geometries are possible and customer-specific adaptations can be easily implemented – with a very short time-to-market.
