Company profile

The IAPK is a research institute associated with RWTH Aachen University, which deals with process and application technology for ceramics and powder metallurgy, supported by a sponsoring association. In addition to research, the institute offers consulting and services related to powder technological manufacturing processes, from the powder to the finished component: design and simulation, powder processing and shaping, consolidation by sintering, heat treatment, component testing under application conditions as well as component and process simulation using FEM and DEM. Research focuses on understanding the effects of process parameters or different powder technological manufacturing processes on the microstructure, mechanical properties and reliability of materials and components. The focus of the used processes is on hot isostatic pressing (HIP), additive manufacturing (AM), powder pressing and various sintering processes (e.g. field-assisted sintering). Both experimental investigations and numerical simulations are used to investigate the powder technological processes holistically. The development of the digital twin in powder technology also plays a major role in research.
