Fraunhofer AdvanCer Intensifies Research on CMCs

On the one hand, the weight can be significantly reduced as compared to existing materials and, on the other, the efficiency can be significantly increased due to a higher combustion temperature. Within the Fraunhofer AdvanCer Alliance, the institutes IKTS, IPK, IWM and HTL focus on cost-effective manufacturing methods for ceramic matrix composites (CMCs). Aside from optimizing existing methods, new technologies are developed such as cost-effective injection molding. In this connection the Fraunhofer Center for High Temperature Materials and Design HTL participated at JEC Europe in Paris/FR, in March 2013, and presented fiber-reinforced ceramic composites for industrial high-temperature applications.
