From today’s point of view, there is great potential for the technical success of the use of ceramic materials for lightweight structures in combustion engines, especially when these can be realized in the form of composite materials with light metals. Engine components made of such materials (MMC – metal matrix composite) like, for example, the inside wall of the engine combustion chamber combine high geometric precision and low weight while being very resilient in meeting demanding mechanical, tribological, thermal and thermomechanical requirements.
