Ceramics in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Process Engineering

Helmut Mayer (FRIATEC AG/DE), Chairman of the Technical Committee, welcomed 40 attendees, who together discussed the eight papers. Representing Merck, U. Kätzel spoke on the “Use of ceramic membranes in organophilic nanofiltration of speciality chemicals” and C. Handrosch on “Ceramic-based pearlescent pigments – production and application”. From Fraunhofer IKTS/DE, M. Jahn spoke on “Novel ceramic carrier structures for use in heterogeneous catalysis”. I. Voigt (Fraunhofer IKTS) explained the further developments of “Inorganic membranes based on gas separation”. G. Pracht (FRIATEC-Rheinhütte) presented “Pumps made of Frikorund ceramic” and discussed their properties profile compared to pumps made of metal alloys and plastics in processes in the chemicals industry.
L. Abahmana (ESK/DE) explained the performance of “Ekasic ceramic flow reactors for chemical production under harsh conditions”.
The topic of ceramic components in measurement and control systems was discussed by R. Inauen (Aquasant/CH) with his report on the “Use of ceramic materials in impedance measurement technology”; A. Tuan Tham (Endress+Hauser/CH) spoke on “Ceramic pressure sensors for process measurement technology”. The series of talks was rounded off with a tour of the plant and company museum. At the event in November 2014, the Technical Committee will focus on the topic of ceramic components in plant and machine engineering.
