CIEC14 – 14th European Inter-Regional Conference on Ceramics

Starting with four contributing regions in 1988, the number of participating regions has increased to eight dedicated member regions today: Baden-Württemberg, Catalunya, Canton du Vaud, Hainaut, Rhône Alpes, Wales, Lombardia, and Piemonte Valle d’Aosta. CIEC14 – 14th European Inter-Regional Conference on Ceramics will be held between 8–10 September 2014 at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart/DE. The conference will consist of invited lectures as well as oral and poster contributions. A single session format will allow detailed discussion of the relevant issues. In addition, a lively poster session will be encouraged, aimed particularly at young researchers who may be attending their first international conference. All of the manuscripts and posters accepted for the conference will be published in a printed volume of conference proceedings to be distributed to delegates at the meeting. It is planned that a smaller number of selected papers will be published in a special issue of a peer reviewed journal. The conference dinner will link with a social programme including tours of interesting places around Stuttgart. The official language of the conference is English.
The conference will cover all aspects of processing, structural characterisation, properties and industrial applications of:
• structural and functional ceramics
• ceramic composites
• ceramic coatings and layer composites
• material’s mechanics.
During the opening conference, Peter Friedrich, Minister for the German Bundesrat (Europe and International Affairs), will give a short welcoming speech to honour the tradition of international cooperation between European scientists. The aim of the conference is to present and discuss the state-of-the-art and future opportunities in the field of ceramic materials. The conference especially promotes collaboration between young researchers and supports formation of international networks of experts in science and industry. One of the main aims of the CIEC conference is the encouragement and promotion of the work of young researchers in the field of ceramics. In a speaker contest the best contributions for PhD students and Post-Docs with less than five years of post doctoral experience will be honoured. Posters will describe results of latest research in a scientifically and graphically appealing way. Best three posters identified by the international scientific committee will be rewarded with attractive prizes. The organizing institute of the conference, IFKB – Institute for Manufacturing Technologies of Ceramic Components and Composites of the University of Stuttgart /DE, will offer the possibility to visit its laboratories. Topics in the fields of manufacturing technology and analysis of monolithic ceramics, ceramic coatings, and composite materials will be covered.
