Piezo Actuators: 100 Billion Cycles without Failures or Loss in Performance

The service life and reliability of piezo actuators strongly depends on the environmental conditions at the site of application. Humidity, temperature and operating voltage are of considerable influence. The answer lies in optimized materials and manufacturing processes, appropriate design and the choice of suitable insulation. For the PICMA® actuators from PI Ceramic, the piezo ceramic is actually a monolithic block with active layers made up of thin ceramic films and surrounded by an all-ceramic insulating layer.

Increased Research Efforts to Speed up Commercialisation of Carbon Fibres, Finds Frost & Sullivan

Although the adoption and commercialisation of carbon fibre is poised to escalate across industries due to its unique benefits and attributes, the high costs of raw materials, manufacturing, and integration in end-user sectors remains a challenge. Research activities, along with strategic and research partnerships between the research community and the industry as well as funding from both government and private agencies will be crucial to spearhead the sustainable use of carbon fibre.

COMPOSITES EUROPE + HYBRID Expo 2015

The European composites market is still growing. This sustained upward trend is also reflected at this year’s COMPOSITES EUROPE which will be held from 22–24 September in Stuttgart.
